Care and maintenance
Your sound processor can be worn during all waking hours - apart from showering, swimming or while engaging in any physical activity that might damage it. Following these few simple guidelines will help to keep your sound processor functioning at its optimum level.
Caring for your sound processor
1. The sound processor is not waterproof, so it is important that it be removed prior to bathing, showering or engaging in any water activities.2. Never expose your sound processor to extreme heat or cold.
3. To avoid losing your sound processor during physical activity, use the safety line that is provided with your sound processor.
Caring for the abutment area
Daily care: Clean the skin around the abutment daily to remove any skin debris. A soft cleaning brush will be given to you when your sound processor is fitted. Use it with soap and water to keep the area clean.
Weekly care: Skin debris may also build up inside the abutment or on the abutment snap itself. This should also be removed by using the soft cleaning brush.
Regular inspection of the abutment: always check that the abutment is firmly in place. You can do this yourself or ask your clinic to help you during your routine appointments, about every six months.
Contact your doctor if you have persistent problems such as soreness, infection, or inflammation around the abutment.
