What are the benefits?

The Baha® system is a unique treatment for hearing impairment and may provide the best treatment option for many individuals with:

  • conductive hearing loss
  • mixed hearing loss
  • Single Sided Deafness (SSD™).

Many users report enhanced hearing perception as well as a positive impact on their personal lives.  Numerous clinical research studies indicate that Baha users generally have greatly improved hearing and are very satisfied with their experience. The Problem:
Sound amplification does not adequately restore hearing loss.  In many cases, individuals are fitted with air conduction devices, such as hearing aids, that simply amplify sound, which may not be the most appropriate treatment option for their condition.  These are individuals that may have:

  • Middle ear atresia or other blockage – a congenital condition that prevents sound from reaching the inner ear
  • Otosclerosis – a hardening of the ear bones

The Baha® System Benefit:
The Baha system bypasses the middle ear, avoiding the problematic area:

  • Direct bone conduction allows sound waves to directly stimulate the functioning cochlea
  • Sound is clear and far less muddled

The Problem:
Ear infections or irritations in the middle or outer ear that are made worse when a hearing device mold is worn. Often, hearing aids can aggravate ear infections or skin sensitivity due to the required physical contact with the skin to hold the device in place. These individuals may experience:

  • Chronic ear infections
  • Uncomfortable in-ear devices

The Baha® System Benefit:
The Baha system is not worn in the ear, but is instead snapped on to an abutment, leaving the device free from contact with the skin:

  • Comfortable and unobtrusive to wear.  Many wearers report that they “forget that it is on”.
  • Greatly reduced ear infections: because the device does not fit within the ear canal the Baha system will not aggravate infections or cause new infections.

The Problem:
Conventional CROS-aids are bulky, cumbersome and not very discrete.  CROS-aids have been a conventional treatment for Single Sided Deafness, but lack the improvements of the latest technologies.  These individuals may experience:

  • A head-worn device that is unattractive and sometimes painful to wear
  • Two in-ear molds that must be worn to transfer sound

The Baha® System Benefit:
The Baha system transfers sound to the functioning ear via bone conduction, rather than a mechanical device.

  • A single, discreet, externally worn sound processor replaces bulky headgear.
  • The Baha system is comfortable to wear and does not block sound from a functioning ear with an in-ear mold.
